M.I.A. is the U.S. abbreviation for Missing In Action.

Until today there are still thousands of soldiers missing. Solely due to the Second World War (1939 - 1945) the United States Army counted 78,000 missing soldiers. This of course, is not only an issue on American side, but all other countries that have participated in the Second World War have soldiers missing until today.

By means of performing investigations, gaining knowledge and hearing stories of eyewitnesses, Foundation "Stichting" Missing In Action (M.I.A.) might find clues that eventually could lead to the excavation of a WWII missing soldier: this is the ultimate goal for Foundation "Stichting" Missing In Action (M.I.A.). To achieve this goal we focus especially on European WWII battlefields like “The Battle of the Bulge” and “Operation Market-Garden”. These battlefields are most obvious for us to research, because we operate from The Netherlands.

“Friend” or “Enemy” is irrelevant for us. The sole purpose we have; is to give the perished soldiers the final proper burial that they so much deserve. We will also try to contact the next of kin and inform them about the relative that has been excavated. We believe the next of kin have the right to know, after all these years, so they might close a book that seemed to be infinite.

Foundation "Stichting" Missing In Action (M.I.A.)'s opinion is; Nobody wanted to enter battlefields, knowing that they probably would not survive and eventually never would be recovered.
Foundation "Stichting" Missing In Action (M.I.A.) will attempt to finally recover the missing from those battlefields, after more than 65 years, whether he/she is English, Canadian or German…
