When going thru one of the Individual Deceased Personnel Files (IDPF) of a 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division missing soldier which missing status we are investigating, we find a missing list which contains the name Roland G.L. Smith with ASN 32906237.

While checking, the missing status is verified because CPL Smith is also mentioned in the Second World War missing list of the Defense Prisoner of War / Missing Personnel Office (DPMO). By doublechecking that list with the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) database, it seems that Roland G.L. Smith is buried at Ardennes American Cemetery. The following details can be found in the ABMC database;

Name: Roland Gordon Leonard Smith
Rank: Corporal (CPL)
Service number:  32906237
Unit: 1st Battalion
325th Glider Infantry Regiment (GIR)
82nd Airborne Division
Company A
Died: October 25, 1944
 Burried at: Plot B, Row 31, Grave 58
Ardennes Neupre, Belgium
U.S. Cemetery and Memorial

By double-checking with document that we have, we find that Roland G.L. Smith was indeed recovered and identified. We sent a mail with our findings to the ABMC and DPMO and after a while we receive a message which states that CPL Smith’s name is removed from the DPMO WWII Service Personnel Not Recovered database.

The WWII Service Personnel Not Recovered database counts one less.

Killed (KIA) CPL Roland Gordon Leonard Smith. Tablets of the Missing at Margraten, Netherlands.
