Op 28 april 2020 ontvangt onze Stichting Missing In Action (MIA) van het Amerikaanse Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) het heugelijke bericht dat SSGT Raymond C. Blanton officieel positief is geïdentificeerd. SSGT Blanton was vermist sinds 15 oktober 1945 (Vermist + 1 jaar & 1 dag).
Het DPAA geeft hierover een persbericht uit met Release No: 20-058 April 28, 2020 en het persbericht zegt het volgende;
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced today that Army Staff Sgt. Raymond C. Blanton, 19, killed during World War II, was accounted for April 23, 2020.
In October 1944, Blanton was assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. His unit was engaged in battle with German forces near Germeter, Germany, in the Raffelsbrand Forest, when he was killed in action on Oct. 14. Blanton could not be recovered because of the on-going fighting.
